Life takes a lot of twists & turns

The small U.S. town I was born and raised in, in the middle of Iowa, seems so insanely far from the world in which I now live.

Not simply in distance, but in almost every aspect of my life.

​

Born the middle of 3 girls, to two full-time teachers as parents, I don't think I ever could have imagined my adult life being lived out in South Africa, halfway around the world from where my simple roots were formed. But here I am! It's a life that sneakily found us, but that we have now fully chosen and deeply love.

​

Similarly, considering my undergraduate and master's degree studies and work in nursing and public health, being a full-time mom, entrepreneur, and children's book author seem equally far from what I thought the work of my hands would look like.

But I have learned that although the twists and turns of life can be incredibly jarring, they almost always take you on a path that you never could have imagined and, more times than not, would never un-choose.

​

It requires a lot of bravery and vulnerability to deviate from a clearly defined path - neither of which I've typically loved or been good at. But the beauty and character that form are so worth it.

​

I hope my journey inspires you to take a few risks and deviations of your own, because your dreams are worth pursuing and the twists and turns may lead you somewhere you never could have imagined.
